GOLDEN GLOBE MISHAP- BEST ACTRESS DENIED Usually at the award shows i find myself routing adamently for certain movies, actors, actresses, directors, you name it and i have a favorite. This year was extremely different. Out of all the categories at the Golden Globes i had strong feelings for only one, The Best Actress Award. And Blam was i ever denied, And double Blam was Halle Berry ever denied. Shafted right at the heart of things. Not to mention the fact that Monster's Ball was completely shafted but the best performance of the year, in my mind, was downright overlooked by a group of people who went for the safe vote of veteran actress Sissy Spacek.
Do not get me wrong here. Sissy Spacek is a tremendous and talented actress in whatever role she plays. And if not for Halle's performance i would firmly agree with the award. Spacek's performance for In The Bedroom was one of a kind and strong to say the least, but did you see what Halle Berry did? I take it the voters did not. Was it because her movie Monster's Ball didn't get nominated for anything else? I don't know, i wish i did.
Halle Berry took on a significant role, surrounded by a cast of gifted actors, one imparticular being Billy Bob Thorton, and ran with the character. She ran all the way there and all the way back leaving no possible characterization unturned or unjustified. She was pitch perfect in every moment of this film. Even during the scenes when she was acting with the horrible casting choice for her son she did not faulter, not once, not even for a second.
So Halle i give you my award, while worth nothing more than a fans opinion, for best actress of the year 2001. |
